Critical Thinking Tip #2: Ask your student about their opinions on what they read. Why do they like or dislike a book? Why do they think a particular event in a story is important? Why do they like or dislike certain characters?
Organizational Skills Make All The Difference
Y3K Tutor In Your Home often receives phone calls and emails by parents all the time asking us to help their students with organizational skills. These skills can be the difference between a poor student and a successful student. Children without organizational skills more often than not, tend to fall behind and suffer with low grades. They have trouble keeping track of assignments and/or constantly losing things.
Over the next several posts we will offer some organization tips just in time for the new school year.
Foreign Travel With Kids
If traveling to another country with your children, be sure to bring all birth certificates, passports and documentation with you. Single parents traveling with children should bring a letter signed by the other parent giving permission for travel listing dates, location and names of those in the travel party.
Driving Distractions & Children
When driving, children can be a distraction in the car. If there is another adult passenger, it is best to let them handle most of the interactions so you can keep your attention on the road.
Next time we will look at foreign travel with kids.
Car Safety & Children
When driving children for a long family trip, often kids need items to keep them occupied. Be aware that loose items in the car can be thrown or become missiles in the event of a crash or sudden stop. Make sure loose items including DVD players, laptops, purses, CD’s, gifts, etc. are secured in either the trunk, console area, or under a cargo net. Only provide children with soft toys and games to play in the car.
Tomorrow we will cover how to not get distracted while driving children.
Involving Kids In Trip Planning
Try to involve your children when planning a trip. This will help them maintain their interest throughout the journey. Show them the route on a map and let them help decide on places to stop including landmarks, hotels and restaurants.
Check back next time for a great way to avoid the constant nagging, “Are we there yet?”
Traveling With Kids
Are you going to drive a long distance with your kids? Over the next several days, we have some great ways to make the experience better for both parents and children.
Tomorrow we will look at how to help your children maintain their interest throughout the trip.
Tubing Dangers & Precautions
If your child goes tubing, there are certain precautions the adult boat driver should take. Adults should be alert to how wide the tube is swinging out from the wake. Look for possible obstacles for collisions. Boat drivers should slow down when towing tubes. Children riding in tubes can’t make changes in direction and when towed at higher speeds, the tube tends to whip wide outside the boat’s wake.
Tomorrow we will look at how kids can protect themselves while tubing.
Tubing Injuries
Nearly half of all injuries to children in boating accidents come from towed tubes also known as tubing. When these injuries occur, they tend to be severe. Injuries to children in tubing accidents came from impact with objects, the tow rope or the propeller.
How can your children go tubing without major injuries? Come back tomorrow.
Take Water Breaks
Take water breaks. If your child complains about dizziness, headache, nausea or muscle cramps, he or she could be overheated or at risk for heat-related illness.
