Fun Fall Fact

October 17, 2016 By Y3K

Yellow, orange and other variations are always in the pigment of tree leaves. They are overpowered by the abundance of green from the chlorophyll in the leaves. When the sun weakens in autumn and days grow shorter, the amount of chlorophyll in the leaves diminishes, allowing the other pigment colors to show through.

PARENTS AGREE: Y3K TUTOR IN YOUR HOME CHANGES LIVES #9

October 11, 2016 By Y3K

The owner has been tutoring my kids – now in 10th grade – since they were in elementary school.  The specific needs have varied over the years and Jerry has always been able to adapt his teaching and style to provide what was needed.  He is able to provide support across all the academic subjects – but just as critically – he has helped with organizational skills and planning.  And he has remained even and cool-headed in the face of difficult teenagers, resistant to getting help.  In the face of reactions that would fell the most intact ego, Jerry has maintained his sense of humor.  I can’t recommend Y3K Tutor In Your Home highly enough.

Constant Praise

October 10, 2016 By Y3K

Studies show that children who are constantly praised do not succeed more than those who are not. In fact these kids become risk-averse. This means they haven’t developed a strategy for handling failure.

School Food Allergy Policy Gone Crazy (part 2)

October 7, 2016 By Y3K

Do you remember when you were a child and your mother would bring in cupcakes to celebrate your birthday? Do you remember bringing in food for a holiday party for the last day before winter break? Remember trading some of your lunch items you didn’t want with a friend? Do you remember trading Halloween candy with your classmates the day after Halloween? Well no more! This is according to the food allergy policy at the Newton Public Schools in Newton, MA and other schools throughout the country. They are using political correctness to ruin celebrations for the entire student population due to a few that may have an allergy.

Here is an excerpt from the Newton Public Schools policy:

“It is a citywide School Committee policy that the sharing of food during snack and/or lunch is not allowed . . . It is also the policy that no food is to be brought into the classroom which means no cupcakes for birthdays or candy at Halloween or Valentine’s Day.”

What happened to allowing kids to be kids? What happened to personal responsibility where if one is allergic to something, they simply say “No thank you” and don’t eat it?
