Common Core State Standards Initiative
The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a set of standards for kindergarten through 12th grade in the subjects of English and math that the states voluntarily adopt. 45 states including Massachusetts have signed on. The standards are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to enter college or the workforce. They claim that the standards are “ . . . clear and concise to ensure that parents, teachers, and students have a clear understanding of the expectations in reading, writing, speaking and listening, language and mathematics in school.” It remains to be seen if this is in fact true. School Systems Wasting Your Children’s Tax Money: In-House Consultants
Another public relations consultant model that some school systems are using are similar to the Concord-Carlisle Regional School District method. As opposed to hiring an independent consultant at inflated hourly charges, they pay an in-house consultant an inflated yearly salary. This is instead of the time-honored tradition of the Superintendent of Schools telling the truth directly to parents. In Concord-Carlisle Regional School District’s case, they pay a PART-TIME communications manager $40,000 per year. Other local hires include Newton Public Schools that hire a Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator for $60,000, Marlborough Public Schools that employs a Communications Liaison for $65,000 and Brockton Public Schools with their Communications Officer making $70,000.

In Newton MA, they will be voting on three property tax overrides to increase taxes by $11,400,000 to mostly pay for school projects. While Newton Public Schools cries how they need new buildings and program funding, they never tell the public about some of their spending. Every time there is a local override vote, cities and towns always whine about how if you don’t vote to raise your taxes, they will cut teachers, police, and firefighters and everyone will suffer. They never seem to threaten to cut or reduce the salaries of the unessential hacks that serve little function in the day-to-day education of our children. In the city of Newton for example, Newton Public Schools hired in 2012 a Communications and Community Engagement Coordinator at a salary of $60,000. While many diseases have been wiped out for the most part in the United States of America, they have not been eradicated around the world. That means you could still be at risk if you go abroad or come into contact with an infected person from overseas. In fact the increase in non-vaccinated immigrants that enter America and the increase in formerly eradicated diseases is not a coincidence. If your kids are not vaccinated, there is a good chance that they could become exposed to some major diseases and suffer like so many people did years ago.
Trick To Lower College Costs
Parents worry about the price college for their children. College costs have been growing at about three times the rate of inflation and are projected to continue to do so in the future. There is however a cost saving method that some college students choose to do. They decide to attend a community college for two years and then transfer to a four-year school. In Massachusetts for example, all public community college credits transfer over to state universities. They can then get a four-year bachelor’s degree for almost half the cost. This is a significant savings.
